Hannah's Sunday Craft

My all-time favorite activity on Sunday’s is the afternoon nap! I love not having to do much of anything. I usually go in my room after lunch lie down in my bed and get cozy under the covers. Most of the time I open a book to read. I often find that sleep will overcome me as I am reading. Today was not much different. Just as I am getting cozy my 8 year old daughter Hannah comes in and states that she is bored!!! I give her my "I am not your Cruise Director Speech" something along the lines of... "It is NOT my job to find something fun for you to do!" Every few minutes she comes in asking over and over what she can do. Now Sunday's at our house are considered NO Technology Day...so I don't let her “Veg” in front of the computer and watch Netflix (although it is always tempting for me to just let them!). Anyway I find this book I have called "365 Outdoor Activities You Can Do With Your Child" by Steve and Ruth Bennett (I need to remember I have this book more often!). She finds an activity to make a wreath for the holidays in it but she needs my supervision to make it. I tell her after my nap we will do it. She left me alone for a good hour and then whispers through my door “Mom? Can we make it now?” I figure I better be a nice Mom, so I get up and we start collecting the supplies for our project.
We get out the cardboard (Costco milk box, these boxes are great for so many things),
fabric (we have some really cute Owl Fabric that I got from Jo Ann's off their remnant rack, I love the remnant rack!!), pencil, and craft wire and do a variation of this activity. We cut the cardboard into a wreath shape.
We then poke holes into the cardboard with the pencil. Hannah had previously cut the Owl fabric into little squares with a friend to use for decorating the front room for Halloween (beautiful fabric confetti all over the room).
We push the fabric into the holes with the pencil and tug on the backs to secure the fabric.
Finally we tied a craft wire onto it for Hanging and it is finished. Nice fun Sunday appropriate activity done! Thank you Hannah for spending time with me today!
